Prescription Savings (All Ages)
Not on Medicare drug coverage? Here are practical ways to lower cash prices at the pharmacy. (These are not insurance.)
Smart ways to cut costs
- Shop pharmacies: Prices vary a lot. Call 2–3 nearby stores or use a price tool to compare cash prices.
- Ask for generics: Your prescriber can switch to lower-tier alternatives when appropriate.
- 90-day fills: Often cheaper per pill; ask if available for your medication.
- Manufacturer coupons: Many brand drugs offer copay cards or patient-assistance programs.
- $4 lists / club pricing: Some chains have low-cost lists on common generics.
Patient assistance & programs
- Manufacturer Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs): Income-based free or discounted meds for many brands.
- Community clinics / 340B: Federally supported clinics may have lower cash prices for eligible patients.
- State/local resources: Some states fund pharmacy assistance—ask what’s available in your area.
Medicare vs non-Medicare
- If you’re on Medicare, compare a Part D or Advantage plan with drug coverage—cash cards may not combine with insurance.
- If you’re not on Medicare, the tips above help reduce out-of-pocket costs without a plan.
